Sintered wear-resistant material comprises 80-98.8 wt.% finely ground IVb-VIb transition metal diboride or mixed crystal as the main phase, 0.2-5 wt.% oxygen-containing grain boundary phase as second phase and 1-15 wt.% particulate boron carbide and/or silicon carbide as third phase. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of a sintered material.
