Composition (A) comprises xanthogenate compound (I). Composition comprises xanthogenate compound (I) of formula R 1-O-C(=S)-S-R 2. R 1alkyl or aryl (optionally substituted); and R 2alkyl, alkoxy, amino or ammonium (all optionally substituted), a metal atom, halo or cyclodextrin. Independent claims are included for: (1) a pharmaceutical formulation (B) comprising (A); and (2) a medicament comprising (B) for treating Alzheimer's disease, viral-, tumor, cardiovascular- and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatism, multiple sclerosis, alopecia areata, lupus erythematosus, stroke and pulmonary edema, and as a radio protector.
