Truncation artifacts correction method in tomographic imaging, e.g. for medical diagnosis, determining extrapolated pixel outside projection image based on radiation attenuation of equivalent body placed in edge region of image
The method involves emitting divergent radiation from a radiation source (2) to illuminate an examined object (5) in different projection directions. A detector (4) captures projection images that are extended by extrapolation using an equivalent body (17), e.g. a water cylinder, that attenuates the radiation based on the object in an edge region of the projection image. Radiation attenuation caused by the equivalent body for an extrapolated pixel (19) outside the projection image is then determined. The projection image is then extended by an extrapolation based on the determined extrapolated pixel. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out a tomographic procedure on a object to be examined.
