The meter has a guide plate (21) guiding magnetic field (B) in an outer space of a measuring tube (2) and measuring electrodes arranged in a side area of the tube. A control/evaluation unit utilizes a measurement voltage induced in the electrodes to provide information relating to volume flow or mass flow of a medium in the tube. Screening units (19a-19d) are arranged between pole shoes and the plate such that magnetic resistance is increased in an area between the shoes and the plate to reduce magnetic stray fields in the outer space and to increase field strength of the magnetic field.
