The flow meter (1) has a measuring pipe (2) through which a medium flows in a direction of a measuring pipe axis (3). Magnetic arrangements produce an alternating magnetic field that runs perpendicular to the axis. Two sets of measuring electrodes (4a, 4b, 4n, 5a, 5b, 5n) are positioned and moved with respect to each other in the direction of axis. A circuit sums induced measuring voltages, which are tapped at the electrodes. A control/evaluating unit determines volume/mass flow of the medium through the pipe.
