The device has one or more cylinders (1), in which a fluid is provided. An inlet line (4) and outlet line (5) is arranged in the area of the upper end position of the fluid column (2), which serve for the inlet and outlet of the gaseous medium which can be compressed into the cylinder. A medium for changing the fluid quantity in the cylinders is provided, where the cylinder head area (6) is formed as inward tapering.
