The IC engine has two exhaust gas turbines connected by a by-pass. This is fitted with a relief valve (48) which is integral with the downstream turbine casing. This has a collection chamber (72), into which the by-pass opens. The chamber is connected to the turbine by a flow channel (74) which is adjusted by a sliding block (78) with a rib (90) at the top of one edge. This fits into a groove (88) in a partition wall (76) when the valve is fully closed.
