The device has a set of knife edges (8) arranged at the circumference of a rotation-driven knife rotor (7), where the knife edges are diagonally arranged opposite to the axis of rotation (9) of the knife rotor under a pre-determined angle. The knife edges are alternately arranged in series in an axial direction (10) of the rotor such that the angular position of adjacent knife edges (8A, 8B) is different. The rotor has multiple rotor disks (13) with different rotor diameters, where the rotor disks are arranged adjacent to each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for chopping wood.
