A passive micro-mixer for single- or multi-phase fluids has two inlets and an outlet plus numerous mixer elements located in different three-dimensional planes. The mixer elements generate secondary vortices resulting in convective mixing of the ingredient fluids. The hydraulic diameter and the mixer element throughput have a combined Reynolds number of more than 100. The hydraulic diameter of the mixer elements is more than 100 m. Some of the mixer elements are arranged in series and others in series. One or more of the mixers is a T-mixer, tangential mixer, twin T-mixer or L-mixer. The mixers are made of e.g. silicon, metal, glass or plastic.
