The device has a compressing device (1) for compressing garbage e.g. household garbage, and a sucking device (2) for sucking air from the garbage. A container (4) accommodates the garbage and is closed with a lid (3). The compressing and the sucking devices are assigned to the lid. The compressing device has a bellows e.g. rolling bellows, and a blower, which is moved in a direction of the garbage in an operating phase of the bellows. The blower is assigned to the sucking device and sucks air from the garbage in another operating phase. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an airtight bag for implementing a garbage accommodating device (2) a lid for a garbage accommodating device.
