The instrument has a mouthpiece (2) for the admission of the exhaled breathing air (1) and a flow screen (3). A pressure sensor (6) is connected to the flow screen by a gas line upstream of the mouthpiece. An evaluation and a control unit (8) receives the measuring signals of the sensors (6, 9) and an alcohol sensor (4) and operates a sampling system (5). The sampling system has bellows (10) and a piezo actuator (30) and operated as a function of the sensors in order to supply a respiratory volume (V1, V2) from the breathing air to the alcohol sensor.
