The system has a sensor (S) e.g. video camera, for detecting an electromagnetic radiation and for producing image sequences. A memory unit (SE) is provided in the system. An analyzing unit (A) is provided for analyzing the sensor signal (1). The sensor is calibrated for determining an intrinsic parameter e.g. focal distance, focal point and scaling factor, and an extrinsic parameter e.g. position and adjustment. Image sequences produced by the sensor are assigned by the calibration of the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for estimating object inventories.
