Preparation of hydrogen-rich silane compound (I) comprises reaction of a dihalosilane compound (II) and a hydrogen compound (III) with a surplus of tertiary aliphatic or cyclic amine, in an aprotic solution or free solution. Preparation of hydrogen-rich silane compound (I) of formula (H nSi(AR 1) 4-n) comprises reaction of a dihalosilane compound (II) of formula (H 2SiX 2) and a hydrogen compound (III) of formula (HAR 1) with a surplus of tertiary aliphatic or cyclic amine, in an aprotic solution or free solution. A : O, NR 2 or S; X : halo; either R 1, R 2primary or secondary alkyl-, alkoxy-, alkenyl-, alkynyl-, or aryl residue, silane, alkoxysilane, borane, carbaborane, germane, alkoxygermane, stannane or plumbane; or R 1R 2alkanediyl or boranediyl; and n : 1 or 2. An independent claim is included for a hydrogen-rich silane compound (I) (where R 1 and R 2 are aryl-, alkenyl-, alkynyl- or cyclic alkyl, excluding triphenylsilyl, when A is O and R 1 is phenyl; A is S and R 1 and R 2 are phenyl when A is N).
