The drive has a fill hole contained in an input coupling unit that fluidically couples a fluid reservoir chamber to a fluid operating chamber. A scavenge hole includes an opening that is contained in a cover unit for fluidically coupling the operating chamber to the reservoir chamber. A wiper component (47) is provided within a notch and contained between a cover wall portion and an outer periphery of the input coupling unit. The wiper component includes a pair of spaced apart arms that extends from a radial tang, where the opening is disposed between the pair of spaced apart arms. An independent claim is also included for a method for improving pumping efficiency in a viscous fan drive during operation.
