The device has an elevating table (12) with a table top (14), and three legs (16, 18, 20) whose length is variably adjusted by linear drives (30, 32, 34). A measuring system is configured to measure position measured values of local measuring points at the table top. A converter, position controller and length controller are designed to implement a position control of the table top around two virtual rotation axes (26, 28) which runs in different spatial directions. An independent claim is also included for a method for precise positioning of a work piece.
