To combine an auxiliary stack (16) with a main stack (11), at the feeder of a sheet-fed printing press, couplings (19) are inserted as rollers into the grooves (21) of a pallet laid on carriers (20) of the auxiliary stack carrier (17), to couple them to the supports (18). An auxiliary stack is separated from the pallet by the carrier and, when combining the stacks, the carriers are removed horizontally.
