A simplified drive for a retracting wing mirror has the main gear wheel (6) plastic moulded in one piece with ratchet profiles (18) and mounted in a support base (5) of injection molded zinc alloy with corresponding ratchet profiles attached (19). The drive and mounting are contained inside a plastic injection molded housing (4), with the plastic housing being larger than the metal molded base. The base and plastic housing have interlocking lipped profiles.
