The ultrasonic sound frequency and noise are determined as maximum values over time, and as effective values, in the frequency range between spectral components of the ultrasound signal. Between the spectral components, the median, or minimum of the sliding mean of the measured noise values is determined. They are determined between frequencies of 2 times and 2.5 times the ultrasound fundamental signal frequency. The instrument used includes a sensor, analog to digital converter, and analyzer. An independent claim is included corresponding measurement instrument.
