The method involves supply energy to an inverter (3) in a power supply system. A load (5) is provided at the inverter output. A characteristic that indicates the islanding condition of the system is detected. The energy supply is deactivated by the inverter on the change of energy level, when the system is in an effective islanding condition. The energy supply is activated when the system is not in the effective islanding condition. An independent claim is also included for an electrical power supply system comprising an inverter.
