The unit (130) has a secure digital (SD)-and multimedia card (MMC)-logic circuits (147, 149) supporting two interfaces and activatable according to requirements of two instructions (ACMD41, CMD1), respectively. A detection circuit (141) in the form of a special function registers stores the two instructions, where a firmware or mode-activation signal-generating module (143) generates a mode-activation signal to activate either the logic circuit (147) or the logic circuit (149) depending on the instructions stored in the register. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a memory card having a multi-interface control unit (2) a method of testing a multi-interface-control unit.
