The method involves lowering the water pressure in a riser system downstream to a supply line to a system pressure by using a pressure regulator (16). The water pressure is lowered to a system low pressure by using a pressure valve (22). The water pressure is increased in the riser system by the water flowing from the supply line. The pressure valve is opened for lowering the system pressure to a system low pressure. A by-pass valve (30) is arranged in the power lines that bypass the pressure regulator lowering the water pressure to the system low pressure. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a drinking water or industrial water system with a pressure regulator (2) a control device.
