In a clamping foot (CF) device for an edge sewing machine, including a pair of CF's (51), a base part (52) and a pair of CF holding mechanisms (70), each held by a support (57) and comprising a first guiding shaft (71) and a holding arm (72), at least one holding mechanisms has a device (73) for switching the CF between positions for single- and double-edge sewing, by moving the holding arm along the shaft. A clamping foot (CF) device for an edge sewing machine includes a pair of CF's (51) which press and hold an edging patch, lying on the main article being sewn, on each side of a vertically movable twin needle; a base part (52) with a pair of oppositely located supports (57) and a feed mechanism for moving the article; and a pair of CF holding mechanisms (70), each held by a support and comprising a first guiding shaft (71), held by both supports and extending outside the supports, and a holding arm (72), with one end movable along the shaft and the other end holding the CF. The novel feature is that at least one of the CF holding mechanisms includes a device (73) for switching the CF between positions for single- and double-edge sewing, by moving the holding arm along the shaft towards or away from the support, using first and second adjusting devices (80, 90) for achieving the single- and double-edge positions respectively. The first adjusting device includes a first screw part (81), formed on an end of the first guide shaft extending beyond the holding arm; and a first operating member (82), located on the first guide shaft, lying against the holding arm when the arm moves away from the support and applied to the first screw part such that its position is adjustable by rotation. The second adjusting device includes a second guide shaft (91), held by the support and extending in the same direction as the first shaft; a second screw part (92), formed on an end of the second shaft; a second operating member (93), applied to the second screw part such that its position is adjustable by rotation; and a buffer, fixed to the support and positioned between the holding arm and the second operating member such that it lies against the operating member when the holding arm moves towards the support.
