Temperature compensation in an optical system, with a piston/cylinder unit moving a lens in a housing, uses a reactive polymer system fluid to compensate for the coefficients of expansion
For the temperature compensation in an optical system (30), a polymer system fluid (46) is used to give a defined relative movement between the piston (40) and cylinder (38) on a temperature change. This compensates for changes in the optical characteristics, where the piston moves a lens (32) in a housing (31). The fluid is a reactive polymer system, which is liquid when not in a hard condition and has a gel to elastomer consistency when hardened e.g. a pine resin derivative or wax.
