The method involves determining assigning one of axial vectors to an image point. The maximum and minimum distance of characteristic vectors of the point are determined and a normal plane for the axial vectors is obtained so that two parallel planes are provided for each axial vector. The testing of whether the characteristic vectors lies within the target area is made for each image point on the object. The point with the characteristic vector lying within the target area is correctly considered, and the point with the vector lying outside the target area is incorrectly considered.
