The orthodontic bracket comprises a bracket base(232) to receive an arch wire and a ligation cover(234) extending over at least a portion of the base to ligate the arch wire(240) when the ligation cover is in a ligating position relative to the base. The ligation cover has a spring for continuously exerting an active force onto the arch wire when in the ligation position. The arch wire is received in an arch wire slot(233) in the base and is continuously engageable with the ligation cover through a bearing protrusion(238) extending from the underside of the ligation cover.
