The carrier roller (1), for an accumulation roller conveyor, has a rotating mantle (4) around a center axis. A drive wheel (6), at the end of the axis, is linked to the mantle through a friction safety clutch assembly (8). A part-torque is set by the weight (FG) of the load at right angles to the axis and a second part-torque is set by an adjustment unit (10), within the roller mantle, as a base value independent of the load weight.
