The hammer (10) includes a hammer head (12) with a striking head (20) and an interface section including a number of frontal extractors (32,34,36), formed by slots (33,25,37). The interface section includes a groove that extends through the frontal extractors. The slot may be sized and/or magnetized to allow a head of a nail to be supported in it so that the nail is cantilevered perpendicular relative to the striking surface. Independent claims are included for a hammer head and a method of extracting a nail from a surface using the above hammer.
