The camera has a convex or cone-shaped mirror (2) and a digital camera (3) that are arranged in a common cylindrical-shaped housing (1) and formed as a compact unit. Integrated movement sensors (4) automatically activate an image information memory e.g. replaceable digital memory media (7). The sensors detect an area of 360 degrees with respect to an optical axis of the camera. An integrated infrared flash-unit (6) is arranged around the housing to permit an image recording in darkness, where an illumination level of a portion of a monitored surrounding area is adjustable.
