The connector insert (1) has a U-shaped cross-section with a centre web (4) and holding faces (6) on each side of same on which butyl (B) is applied. Two flaps (2) mounted on the centre web cover the butyl so that when the connector is inserted into the hollow profiled strips they cover the gap between the profiled strips so that butyl passes out through the gaps at the edges of the flaps, enters into the chambers (5) at the side of the connector and seals the join between the profiled strips. The amount of butyl added is measured so that the space between the flaps and holding faces is filled and enough butyl passes out to fill up the chambers between the strips.
