The elevator has a rail unit (5) with a series of cross units (10) running transverse to rails (6). A swing bolt (22) is arranged in a trolley (8), where the bolt is tiltably supported between a stretching position and a locking position around a rotation axis parallel to the cross units. A hoisting rope (18) is connected with the trolley by the swing bolt in an usage position so that the bolt is engaged in the stretching position under traction force, is automatically pivoted in the locking position and is engaged with one of the cross units during omission of the traction force.
