The unit has a piston (4) movably guided into a cylinder (2), and a hydraulic operating chamber (14) bordered by the cylinder and the piston. A volume changeable over-flow chamber (12) is separated from a gas chamber (13) by a separation piston (11). An over-pressure valve unit (16) has a number of pressure control valves (20) that are arranged around a path-dependent throttle (15). Each valve has a valve piston (23) that is pre-stressed against a hub by a coil spring, where the hub surrounds an orifice of a high-pressure borehole (21) that communicates with the operating chamber.
