The device has a card reader for reading data recorded in a card. A back covering surface has a card slot, through which the card is inserted into the card reader. A front screen is provided for covering a sub range of the card reader. An adjustment unit (13) changes the relative position of the card slot to the front side covering surface. The adjustment unit is designed so that the card slot (4) is moved in and out periodically within an area of the notch (3).
