The powder coating tool is a porous and air permeable roller (4), with a controlled inner underpressure for the powder (5) to cling to its surface. The powder is distributed evenly by a scraper (1), which also sets the powder layer thickness (A). The roller is moved over the workpiece surface, at a set gap (H), for the powder to be detached and held by an adhesive (3) wholly or partially over the workpiece surface. Powder taken from the roller surface is replaced by a feed.
