The compressor (1) has a hydraulic drive for attachment to an excavator. The compressor is designed such that it is placed on the material to be compressed without using uncontrolled pressure. The compressor is displaced vertically downwards by a hydraulic cylinder (8) during the compression process. A hydraulic circuit drives a hydraulic motor (9) provided at a vibration drive to pressurize a piston head of the cylinder.
