The connection unit has a semiconductor switch for controlling a trailer light (2) e.g. light emitting diode, and switchable by a control device, where the control device communicates with a data network of a drawing vehicle. A resistive unit provides an electrical connection between the semiconductor switch and the trailer light. The resistive unit is connected with a current mirror (8) for determining the current flowing through the unit by collection of electrical parameters.
