The sorting method has unacceptable bottles removed from a bottle crate (10) fed along a first feed path (1) and deposited in at least one further bottle crate (20,30,40) fed along a further feed path (2,3,4). The original bottle crate remains on the first feed path after passing the bottle removal point and the bottles in the crate receiving the removed bottles may be subjected to a further sorting process. An Independent claim for a bottle removal device for bottle sorting is also included.
