PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for displaying a fluorescent image as an autofluorescent image generating from the tissue of a living body that receives an irradiation of an excitation light, which makes it possible for an operator to safely and promptly take out an endoscopic portion to be inserted therewith and assures the safety of a subject even when a desired image is unobtainable because of a functional abnormality of the device that may occur for some reason or other.;SOLUTION: A means 122 of detecting the temperature of a semiconductor of a GaN system 111 that detects a functional abnormality, a means 124 for detecting the temperature of a referential light source 117, a means 123 for detecting an abnormality of a semiconductor laser driving system, a means 125 for detecting an abnormality of a driving system of a referential light source and a means 121 for detecting the irradiation in response to a detection signal are to be provided to automatically normalize the display of normal images when the abnormal temperatures of a semiconductor laser of the GaN system 111 and the abnormal reference light source 117, the abnormal function of a driving system 112 of a semiconductor laser of the GaN system and a driving system 118 of a referential light source and the irradiation abnormalities of the excitation light, and the referential light due to the causes other than the above are detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
