A method and apparatus for detection of a film video signal originating from a cinema

PURPOSE: A 2:2 pull-down sequence judging apparatus and method are provided to detect a correct 2:2 pull-down image by detecting the 2:2 pull-down image using a main detector and a sub-detector and adaptively coping with noises. CONSTITUTION: A 2:2 pull-down sequence judging apparatus includes a main detector(300), a sub-detector(350), a still image judgement unit(380), and a 2:2 pull-down sequence decision unit(390). The main detector calculates SAD(Sum Absolute Difference) among sequential fields for an input video signal and detects a 2:2 pull-down image based on the SAD. The sub-detector calculates an absolute variation in the calculated SADs and detects a 2:2 pull-down image based on the absolute variation. The still image judgement unit judges whether the input video signal corresponds to a still image based on the SAD and absolute variation. The 2:2 pull-down sequence decision unit combines the detection results of the main detector and sub-detector and the judgement result of the still image judgement unit to determine whether the video signal is a 2:2 pull-down sequence.
