A process for the preparation of a semifinished resin lens

A semi-finished resin lens which has a lens part (9c) located in the central portion and a brim part (10c) being molded in one piece; and a method for producing the semi-finished resin lens which comprises charging a liquid resin material into the cavity of a shell (5a) for molding a resin lens in an amount of 50 to 90 % of the volume of the cavity, holding the shell in a nearly horizontal position, to generate a rising part through surface tension and form a mass (7a) of the resin material, effecting a polymerization through heating while maintaining the horizontal position, and releasing a mold for the shell, to provide a molded resin article (8c). The semi-finished resin lens can be used for producing a resin lens having an desired diameter smaller than that of the mold, and thus allows the savings of a resin for optical use.
