The skirt, e.g. for use by a ballet dancer, has a gripping waistband (2) and flared flounces. It is worn around the hips. The novel feature is that the waistband has horizontal resilience. At least one annular flare (4) has no horizontal elasticity, and its inner circumference is connected to the waistband. Vertical elasticity is also included. An independent claim is included for the method of manufacture.
