Vertical cavity surface emitting laser for use with e.g. transceiver, has optical fiber inserted in hole at end so that axes and hole are inclined at non-null angle, where fiber is blocked over non-null length by tangency to contour of hole
The laser has a plate (10) with two opposite sides (20, 30), and a through hole (14) traversing the plate between the two sides and extending along an axis. An optical fiber (12) extends along another axis, and is inserted in the hole at one of its ends such that the two axes and the hole are inclined at a non-null angle. The fiber is tangent, at two points, to the contour of the hole at the side (20), so that the fiber is blocked over a non-null length. The fiber is associated to a mechanical support (24) surrounding the distal part (26) of the fiber. An independent claim is also included for a method for coupling an optical fiber.
