Direct injection internal combustion engine e.g. diesel engine, combustion chamber, has piston with tulip having side wall that is rectilinear and inclined so that angle of impact of fuel jets, emitted by injector, on wall is perpendicular
The chamber has inlet and exhaust valves mounted in a flat cylinder head (2), and a piston (5) sliding in a cylinder (1) between top bottom dead centers. The piston has, at upper surface (5a), an axisymmetric tulip (6) with a central conical slotted pin (6a) connected by a short concave section (6b) to a side wall (6c). An inclined injector opens in the chamber and emits fuel jets into a truncated plate (8). The wall is rectilinear and inclined at an angle (gamma ) between 5 to 20 degrees, such that an angle (alpha ) of impact of the jets on the wall is perpendicular. The axisymmetric tulip (6) is off-centered with respect to an axis (A1) of the cylinder. The inclined injector is off-centered with respect to the axis (A1) of the cylinder and an axis (A2) of the tulip.
