The system has a static detector (310), communicating reconfigurable detectors (315, 317, 335), a reconfigurable detector (330) and a relay detector (320) to send a signal using a short-range wireless communication unit. Two external communication nodes (345, 347) are provided, where one node allows long-distance communication using a long-distance communication unit based on the state of the other node and on the signal. Each external communication node has a microcontroller. An independent claim is also included for a remote surveillance method.
