The method involves associating country information with a high reliability to extracted information such as IP address, of the header of an electronic mail. The country information is used in a logical processing step of the mail to perform probabilistic, arithmetic or logical processing on the country information to characterize the probability that the analyzed mail is unsolicited. An independent claim is also included for a system for detecting potentially unsolicited electronic mail.
