Policy based IMS infrastructure for e.g. universal mobile telecommunication system network, has non universal terrestrial radio access network access networks with local policy decision functions applying policy rules in policy repository

The infrastructure has non universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) access networks (11, 12) with local policy decision functions (LPDF) applying policy rules in a common policy repository (16) external to a core network (10). The network (10) exerts a PDF policy decision function by applying policy rules in the repository and controls a P-CSCF proxy and GGSN of a UTRAN access network (13). The networks (11, 12) comprise a local policy repository whose rules are applied by shared policy decision function (SPDF) of the network (10) having a policy repository. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an access network with an IMS infrastructure (2) a method for controlling an IMS infrastructure.
