A mixer comprises a chamber (12) mounted on a transportable supporting structure (13) and containing mixing implements rotated e.g. by a tractor power take-off shaft. The mixed material is discharged from the chamber through an outlet (33) in its base with a shutter (31), and the chamber can be rotated through at least 90 degrees about its vertical axis by a circular rack and pinion drive to place the outlet and its chute (36) in a convenient position. The shutter is opened and closed by a motor-driven gear meshing with a toothed edge (35) on the shutter.
