The invention relates to a method of tracking at least one deformable object in an image sequence (51), comprising an initialization step during which a surface containing substantially said object, called target (50), is defined, in a first image (II) of said sequence, and a step of predicting a state vector (xt) of said target in at least one following image (It,) of said sequence (51) .according to the invention said prediction step comprises steps of: - associating with said target a set of potential state vectors determined from at least one image (It-1) preceding said next image; subset of said potential state vectors to at least one fixed reference model (h * ref) constructed (E52) from said target in said first image; - comparison of a second subset of said state vectors potential to at least one adaptive reference model (h * obs) constructs (E55) from a predicted state vector of said target in at least one image (It-l) preceding said next image; - determining (E57) a predicted state vector (xt) said target taking into account the result of said comparisons.
