The procedure consists of establishing a mathematical model of the metallic membrane (1) and determining its transfer function by applying hydrogen under pressure to its outer surface (2). The pressure is measured on both sides of the membrane and at the pressure source to produce pressure curves and establish a pressure balance on each side. A parametric identification is made by comparing the mathematical model with the measured pressure curves, and it is used to produce numerical values corresponding to the three stages of the permeation mechanism.
