The flotation aid consists of a buoy or bladder (3) in the form of a C-shaped neck support inflated by a gas cartridge (11) when its percussion mechanism (10) is set off by a line (12). The buoy or bladder is located prior to use inside a cover (4) with a self-gripping fastener (9) and attached by plastic screws (5) to a harness (2) carried on the wearer's back e.g. by means of an upper body garment (1). Once inflated the buoy or bladder can be attached to the harness by magnets.
