Gradual video sequence transition detecting method for video coder/decoder, involves calculating criteria indicating if one distance is greater than another distance and making decision on image belongingness to transition based on criteria
The method involves calculating a distance (C1) between an image (I(t-k)) and a mean image (Im) resulting from a mean calculation between an image (It) and an image (I(t-2k)). Another distance (C2) is calculated between the images (I(t-k), It) or between the images (I(t-k), I(t-2k)). A criteria (C) indicating if the distance (C2) is greater than the distance (C1) is calculated. A decision about the belongingness of the image (I(t-k)) to a gradual transition is made according to the criteria. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a video sequence coding method comprising transition detection phase (2) a computer program product comprising program code instructions for executing a transition detection method (3) a computer program product comprising program code instructions for executing a coding method (4) a storage unit storing a set of instructions executable by a computer for implementing a transition detection method (5) a storage unit storing a set of instructions executable by a computer for implementing a coding method (6) a video sequence transition detection device (7) a coding device comprising a video sequence transition detection device.
