The method involves calculating a distance (C1) between an image (I(t-k)) and a mean image (Im) resulting from a mean calculation between an image (It) and an image (I(t-2k)). Another distance (C2) is calculated between the images (I(t-k), It) or between the images (I(t-k), I(t-2k)). A criteria (C) indicating if the distance (C2) is greater than the distance (C1) is calculated. A decision about the belongingness of the image (I(t-k)) to a gradual transition is made according to the criteria.
